A tour of antique military vehicles called Freedom Route 3 will pass through the Shuswap area.
August 11-12, many locations –
Freedom Route 3.
Western Command Military Vehicle Historical Society has assembled a large group of former Canadian Military vehicles that will tour the interior of British Columbia during the week of August 9 to 16, 2009. This convoy will be known as Freedom Route Three and is the third such convoy of military vehicles that has taken place since 2005. The first convoy toured the interior of B.C. in 2005 and was a huge success. Displays were put on in each town that was visited with large crowds attending each display. A second convoy toured the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island in 2007 which was also a great success.
The purpose of the convoy is to raise both youth and public awareness of Canada’s Veterans and the roles they played in the country’s Military history. This convoy will commemorate our Veterans and will serve as a means of showing support and recognition of their efforts. Veterans Affairs Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion Branches along the route have been closely involved in the planning process for this convoy. The vehicles and period equipment will be on display at each stop. As this is an educational event, the public is encouraged to attend these displays and ask any questions they may have.
The vehicles on the convoy range from motorcycles and jeeps to large cargo trucks and halftracks. The vehicles ages will range from the 1940’s (World War 2) through to the 1980’s and all vehicles are privately owned and maintained.
The attached schedule outlines the dates and times we will be in your area.
The tour of some 30 vehicles begins in Abbottsford on August 9, will be in the Kamloops / Shuswap / Okanagan area on August 11 and 12, and ends in Chilliwack on August 16.

We are looking for some authentic military vehicles for the Calgary Stampede in 2010. That is the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Navy. We will have veterans marching in the parade. They are far too old to march that distance. We are hoping to have some genuine vehicles to convey them through the parade. If you know of anyone that can help us please contact me at matlot04@hotmail.com.
