BC Conservative Party announces 2009 AGM. MP John Cummins will be a keynote speaker.
The BC Conservative Party will hold its Annual General Meeting at The Best Western Inn & Convention Centre in Chilliwack on September 26, 2009.
Federal Conservative MP, John Cummins, has accepted an invitation as AGM guest speaker. Mr. Cummins is the extremely popular MP from Delta-Richmond East who has distinguished himself as a champion of British Columbia issues in Ottawa such as fisheries and aboriginal affairs.
In the wake of the recent announcement of a Harmonized Sale Tax (HST) by the governing BC Liberals, the BC Conservatives are experiencing a massive upsurge in public interest and party support. “The public is practically pounding down our doors wanting information on how to join,” said party president, Wayne McGrath.
Recent polls show the BC Conservatives as the primary recipient of the huge loss in popular support by the Liberals. While the NDP polling numbers have remained relatively static, the BC Conservatives have tripled their support from the last provincial election to over 7%.
“We believe this initial shift to the BC Conservatives is only the beginning. As more and more people hear about our policies to hold governments like the Campbell Liberals to account, not just at election time but in-between elections, with substantial democratic reforms, they will continue to come over in droves,” said McGrath.
The party will adopt a new Constitution and By-laws and will elect a new Board of Directors. Members of the public can register to attend the AGM at conservativesbc.com. Featured speakers will be BC Conservative Deputy Leaders Chris Delaney and Mark Thompson, party President, Wayne McGrath, as well as federal Conservative MP, John Cummins from Delta-Richmond East.
“We are delighted to have such a great group of speakers, and are particularly honoured by the presence of such a well respected MP as John Cummins. John has been very outspoken in his defense of fisheries as well as other matters of importance to BC. He is a compelling speaker and a politician of great integrity. We are excited to have him with us at our AGM,” concluded McGrath.
