Vernon RCMP.
Yesterday (May 14) evening at 7:30 PM the Vernon RCMP were called to a report of a body floating in the water off Kekhuli Bay. A local resident and his family were out boating and noticed an empty boat. Nearby he discovered a life jacket a short distance away they noticed a body. They recovered the body and returned him to the boat launch.
The police called Search and Rescue to assist in a search of the area to determine if the man was alone. The boat was recovered and returned to the launch were the victims truck was also located. SAR searched until dark they are satisfied that the man was alone.
The police investigation has determined so far that the 47-year-old man was from the Lake Country area. All indications are he was alone on the water at the time.
The police and the Coroners Service are continuing their investigation.
This is the first boating-related death of the year in our area. The police are asking everyone to be careful on the water as we head into the long weekend and a start to another busy boating season on Okanagan lakes and rivers. Please remember your safety equipment.
