Drowning in Alba Falls pools

Drowning at Albas Falls, Seymour Arm near Shuswap Lake.

Chase RCMP.

On Saturday August 21, 2010, at approximately 5:30 pm, the Chase and Sicamous RCMP, along with Shuswap Search and Rescue and BC Ambulance Services responded to a report of an apparent drowning at Albas Falls near Seymour Arm.

Upon arrival it was learned that a 26 year old Lower Mainland man had been at the falls with a group of friends. The group had been houseboating on Shuswap Lake and had hiked up to the falls.

The police and BC Coroners investigation has revealed that the man had jumped into the pools below the falls and resurfaced briefly only to submerge again and fail to resurface. Searchers were unable to locate the man on Saturday.

The recovery was made from approximately 20 feet below the surface, Sunday morning by members of the RCMP dive team. An autopsy will be held later this week and toxicology tests completed at that time.

The Chase and Sicoamous RCMP are continuing to assist the BC Coroners Service with their investigation.

I am a friend that was there with kevin the man that died in albas fall Aug 21. He did not jump. He fell or the current took him. That really should be straightened up.

Thank you for making a statement about the report above, I truly hope that it is corrected as I don't believe that is what happened. I am also so very sad to lose Kevin, he was a truly amazing person who touched people's lives like no other!
