Oct 8, Grindrod / Oct 9, Salmon Arm –

One of Vancouver’s best young rock acts emerging on the local scene, Versus the Nothing, will be entertaining fans in Grindrod and Salmon Arm this week as part of their Canadian Tour to promote their new ‘Black Gloves’ EP, a follow-up to their debut album, ‘Let It All Come Down’.

Singer Ross Archibald and bassist Jason Scannell met in the junior concert band at North Surrey Secondary in the 1990s, where Ross was a baritone-sax player and Jason a bassist. They formed their band in 2001 and were joined by Chris Shaw and Derek Merrell, guitarists, and drummer Jake Wyman.

The sound of ‘Let It All Come Down’ (spring of 2010) has been compared to the hard-charging output of 1990s bands Tool, Rage Against the Machine and Incubus. It was a winner in the 2008 CFOX SEEDS competition (a Vancouver radio station showcasing local talent) and they have been getting great exposure on the airwaves in Canada and the US ever since, plus they had a song in a Mazda commercial and were featured on the Official 2010 Olympics video game for X-Box, PS3 and PC.

You can catch their act in Grindrod on Friday, October 8, 2010 at Riverfront Pub and in Salmon Arm on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at The Hideaway.

Keep your eyes on these boys. They’re going for the top!

You had forgotten to mention that Ande Otte and Jason Scannell are now in the band as the members have changed since 2001.

What do you think?
