The third season of Shuswap Youth Theatre is underway and if you are between 10 and 17 years of age, you are invited to participate in a great program of theatre games, acting training, impovisation and producing short scenes. If you have ever thought you’d like to be a part of the acting world, this is your chance to come and have some great fun while you learn basic acting skills. You will learn parts and participate in our ‘by donation’ stage production in the spring.

Last year, youth theatre had 19 participants in the program and the group performed a stage version of ‘Silverwing’, the novel for the young-at-heart by Canadian author Kenneth Oppel. Director James Bowlby was helped by Sherry Bowlby and Karen Abel. While James worked with the actors in specific scenes, Sherry and Karen engaged the others in theatre games. The outcome was hugely successful, with the actors presenting very credible performances.

Shuswap Youth Theatre is sponsored in part by Shuswap Theatre Society and the Mandella project. Mandella offers a variety of free programs to all youth between 8 and 17 years of age, the Mandella Project also has a free referral-based portion which offers additional support and services for young people. The project is an initiative of Salmon Arm Partners in Community Leadership Association and is partially funded through the Government of Canada’s National Crime Prevention Strategy.

If you are interested in the youth theatre, come on down to the Down Town Activity Centre on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5pm, drop-ins are welcome. For more information, you may contact James Bowlby at 250-832-8383.
