Campbell resignation won’t change much — Sinclair

News of Gordon Campbell’s resignation comes as no surprise to Jim Sinclair, President of the B.C. Federation of Labour. But he warns that an entire decade of failed policies will not end with Campbell’s resignation and unless the party’s failed policies are also rejected.

In a media release today, Mr. Sinclair said, “British Columbians want real change in this province and replacing Gordon Campbell with another leader who wants to cut taxes and cut public services will not deliver the change our province needs,”

“At every turn, the Liberals put business interests ahead of the well-being of British Columbians. The Liberals brought us a decade that saw the abandonment of forest workers and forest communities. They doubled tuition costs that prevented unemployed workers and young people from getting the training they need. They brought us a decade of record poverty rates. They gutted employment standards and took the highest minimum wage in the country and left us today with the lowest,” Sinclair added.

“The last decade has seen reckless tax cuts and a dismantling of the public services on which British Columbians rely. Policy after policy targeted the most vulnerable people in our society and the Liberals simply ignored and denied the damage they were doing to the social fabric of our province. These policies were supported by every Liberal MLA in the legislature. Simply getting rid of Gordon Campbell will not reverse the damage the Liberals have done to this province,” Mr. Sinclair added.
